Irrigation Systems and Irrigation Supplies

Irrigation can be defined as the scientific application of artificial water to the land or soil. It is used to facilitate the growing of  a wide range of agricultural crops, maintenance of landscapes, and the revegetation of disturbed soils in dry arid areas. It can also be employed during periods of minimal rainfall or drought.

In addition irrigation can also be utilised in crop production; which can include protecting plants against frost; suppressing weed growing in Grain fields and helping in preventing soil consolidation. In contrast to this agriculture that relies only on direct rainfall is referred to as rain fed or dryland farming.

Irrigation systems can also be used for dust suppression, disposal of sewage, and in mining. Irrigation is usually linked alongside drainage which is the natural or artificial removal of surface and sub-surface water from a given area.
Irrigation supplies can be utilised to cope with all forms of irrigation needs here in the UK and in Europe; these Irrigation Supplies are available to deal with the whole spectrum of irrigation and its execution.

With surface irrigation systems water moves out and over land by the use of simple gravity flow in order to wet it and to penetrate into the soil. Surface irrigation can be subdivided into three main categories

1.Furrow

2.Borderstrip

3.Basin irrigation.

It is usually referred to as flood irrigation when the irrigation results in flooding or near flooding of the cultivated land.

Localised irrigation is a system where water is distributed under low pressure through a network of pipes set out in a pre-determined configuration and applied as a small discharge to each plant or in close proximity to it. 1.Drip irrigation, 2.Spray, 3.Micro-sprinkler irrigation and 4.Bubbler irrigation also belong to this sector of irrigation methods.

Irrigation supplies include all forms of networked piping, pumps, valves, sprinklers, controllers, emitters and soil moistness sensors. Irrigation supplies includes piping in HDPE, High-density polyethylene; MDPE, Medium DensityPolyethylene;PVC, Polyvinyl chloride and PEX, Cross-linked polyethylene.
